"Studying abroad is an experience that has the potential to change a person’s life forever, and for me it has been a dream come true. I had always wanted to visit the Golden State, with its beautiful beaches, diverse culture, and endless opportunities. When I found out that my university in Norway offered a study abroad program in Santa Barbara, I knew I had to apply. I had the opportunity to study at UCSB for a whole year, and it has truly been an experience that I will never forget. Having the chance to study abroad is a gift. This gift does not only give people remarkable stories and experiences, but more importantly, a new worldview, a new perspective, and a new understanding of other cultures and people. In this personal experience essay, I will share my experiences while studying abroad in California, and how the differences between cultures and academics has impacted me."
